Here at Nitro Solutions we often get asked whether we are an environmental consultancy.
We tend to use the phrase “environmental advisory firm” because it fits what we are a little better. But still not quite. You see we have a unique team of professionals within our organisation, such as:
- Environmental scientists
- Environmental engineers
- Legal counsel (lawyers)
- Data scientists
- Graphic designers
- Information Technology specialists
- Geographical Information Specialists
- Geologists
- Hydrogeologists
- Ecologists
- Project Managers; and
- Project Administrators.
As my youngest son likes to say you’re either a something -ist or an -er when you work at Nitro! He’s not wrong.
We have a unique blend of professionals which allows us to tackle complex natural resource management, environmental and social issues. It also makes us not your average environmental consultancy.
Other things that make us something different to the environmental consultant type of organisation is our strengths in innovation. At heart we’re a technology company – we search for and adopt the best technologies to use both in house and for our clients to use. And if we can’t find it we make it ourselves! So far, we have built:
- Wattle – our own artificial intelligence program which are constantly trialing and building upon in house. So far, our trials show a 99.9% reduction time in research with unparalleled accuracy.
- Myrtle – our own GIS tool which conducts legislative environmental constraints analysis for new and existing projects. In 6 – 15 minutes we can tell you every piece of legislation that is applicable to your project and where this spatially correlates.
- PEA – Predictive Environmental Authority Analysis – currently for Queensland we are able to conduct a comparative analysis of resource authority conditioning to determine if there are opportunities for cost savings and to flag potential compliance issues against industry standards.
- Digital EMSs – Environmental Management Systems are made instantly accessible to the broader organisation through the use of our digital solution.
In terms of our internal culture we are not your average environmental consultancy either…
Unlike the majority of environmental consultancies, we do not have billable hour targets. We have KPIs relating to solving problems and delivering not creating more work. This is better for our clients and our team as when it comes to the complexity of managing environmental approvals and compliance the focus needs to be upon delivering to our high standards.
We have also set out to support regional Australian communities in our small way. All of our operating systems are built to allow for seamless remote working conditions, meaning that if we find someone amazing, we can hire them and they can continue to live within their town. For our clients this also means we have a growing number of satellite offices across Australia.
We practice Hive project management. Have you ever looked at how a beehive works? Each bee has its role to play but if there is an issue, they will swarm to resolve the hive’s integrity without question working as one team. This is the Nitro Way, together with our collective strengths and experience we are able quickly and effectively address any issue that presents itself.
Based on all of the above I think we can safely conclude that we are not an environmental consultancy, at the very least we’re not what you’d expect when you think of one.

Ngaire Tranter – Environment Director & CEO
Ngaire’s passion for environmental management was accidentally discovered when she was informed that she “talked too much to ever be a traditional scientist”. Since those early days in university Ngaire has used her talents in scientific communications to conduct environmental impact assessments and provide environmental and social governance support for organisations.
In her spare time Ngaire is also developing a world first artificial intelligence program aimed at delivering complex environmental compliance advice in real-time. She also loves spending time with her family and her French Bulldog Gizmo and going boating on the bay.
